Michael Jackson Estate Sony Music Entertainment:Biggest Record Deal In History – Michael Jackson’s estate has signed the biggest recording deal in history.
The King of Pop’s estate agreed to a $250 million 10-album deal with Sony Music Entertainment for previously unreleased music and the catalog from the late pop icon.
Jackson’s career spans 30 years with Sony’s Epic label and the new deal with his estate extends his time with the label through 2017.
The King of Pop is resting in peace, but his legacy lives on, as he was one of 2009’s biggest-selling artists.

Since Jackson’s passing nine months ago, Sony Music has sold 28 million MJ albums, including 5 million copies of the soundtrack from “This Is It,” a documentary of the slate of shows the star was planning for his comeback tour at the time he died. The sales provided a boost to Sony Corp overall. Sony Pictures produced the film, which took the number one spot in DVD sales, breaking previous records for the first-week sales of a music film.
According to Yahoo News, future projects may also include a video game, a DVD compilation of videos and a release of “Off the Wall,” Jackson’s fifth studio album, which first came out in 1979, accompanied by some unreleased material.
The label plans to release the first batch of new music in November.
In recent news, Jackson’s custom-made furniture is headed to the auction block. The 22 pieces of furnishings for his London home, included a red velvet sofa that seats nine, a leopard-print chair trimmed with ostrich feathers and a pair of velvet armchairs embroidered with gold eagles, which he intended to use during his “This Is It” concert run in London.
A re-creation of the home can be viewed at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood casino from June 14 to June 25 before the items are sold at auction. A portion of the proceeds will benefit two charities – MusiCares and Joshua’s Heart.
