Is Wale Homophobic? DC Black Gay Pride Performance Cancelled – Wale was sechduled to perform during the DC Black Gay Pride festival, but it appears that he has had second thoughts regarding his performance. In an industry where homosexuality is not something that is often tolerated (the music business), and in a genre where it is even worse (hip hop), it appears that Wale would like to distance himself from the recent Black Gay Pride performance that he had signed on to do. Wale, who had received a number of complaints for colorism for his “Pretty Girls,” video, now will be facing some backlash for his cancelled performance.

Wale, who is 25, was set to be paid nearly $20,000 for his performance. Reportedly, in the first email from his agent to Earl Fowlkes, a board member and spokesperson for Black Pride, the agent stated that Wale would have to cancel due to family obligations. In the second email, the agent reportedly stated that Wale had signed on for the Black Pride performance, not knowing that it was actually a gay celebration. This upset many of the board members who were expecting his performance to draw crowds, but many have said that they can understand why Wale would not want to take part in something like that, as it would likely damage his career.

“We were clear about what kind of event this is,” Fowlkes said in a statement. “After doing this for 20 years, we certainly don’t want to put ourselves and the artist in an uncomfortable situation.”
Wale has not released a response to allegations that he is homophobic.
