Friday Night Lights Season 4 Premiere – The fourth season of Friday Night Lights premiered yesterday (May 8 ) on NBC.
Centered on layered characters and their lives in a small Texas town, last night’s episode took a drastic twist, as Dillon High School was made into the enemy.
Coach Eric Taylor moved to East Dillon, and Panther pride was replaced with Lion.
The series took a few more creative liberties to set up the extreme disunion between West and East Dillon. J.D. McCoy, who was once so quiet and underdeveloped, last year, is a full-fledged, stereotypically pompous quarterback now.


As for characters we’ve known for so long, life isn’t great for Matt Saracen or Tim Riggins. Neither is it happy-go-lucky at college, but Tim actually does something about it – he drops out. With no room at home for him, Tim lands on his feet by landing in bed with a local bartender. It’s assumed that he and Lila are over because each has gone in a different college direction, which is a better assumption than to think Riggins would cheat on the lovely ex-cheerleader. Tim’s exploits allow another new character to enter the fray – Becky Sproles. Hopefully, Riggins will steer clear of this young student, no matter what signals she gives off down the line.
Then there’s Vince Howard. It is possible the topic of race will come up this season since it’s something that hasn’t received much play in the past.
Tami and Eric, whose marriage is the most realistic depiction of a relationship on television, are at rival schools. But we can expect some arguments to arise between them, and we can also expect these debates to be handled in a mature, loving way. While the team and the school may change, Eric’s fierce intensity and loyalty will remain the same. With Friday Night Lights back on network television, fans can’t wait to become immersed in his personal and professional life again.
