We first heard about “Carmen” during the 2001 battle between Jay-Z and Nas. The mother of Nas daughter, Carmen Bryan was thrust into the middle of the war of words between the rappers after Jay-Z admitted to hooking up with her while she was still with Nas. Of course this had the industry going nuts, but Bryan always refused to talk to the media about the battle and her relationship with the two rappers – until now. She was saving it all for her book, It’s No Secret. The book will reveal the stuff that went down behind the scenes plus her time working at Def Jam and Capitol Records and her experiences with different celebrities on a day-to-day basis. In the book, Bryan name checks everyone from Diddy and Allen Iverson to Beyonce and Kelis along with Nas and Jay-Z. The book should now be on shelves. IN THE BOOK: Carmen states that Beyonce breathe smells like shit. Jay-Z does things to his booty and that Kelis doesn’t put deodorant on. I mean really? What do you all think about this mess? Thanks, Chellybop for the email.

You may think HipandPop.com has gone officially punk but wait! Lily Allen who is another MySpace freak stealed the public’s eye so I believe it’s worth to write about this! She is so unusual and got the funky soul sound - the certain characteristics of black music - makes me feel it’s so right and tight. I downloaded some of her tracks on iTunes and it’s clear to see she’s a girl who is out of the current stereotypes in the music business. Although she wouldn’t get US attention because of being from UK, I want you to take a look and review. Here are some tracks for you to preview including her top charted "Smile":

ALBUM REVIEW: Ciara

Ciara’s second debut is not only the ultimate party anthem but does show some growth. I turned this album on and instantly I saw that Ciara attempted to set a theme to this album. The theme consist of three sections evolution of music, dance, and fashion. Ciara was hella smart with who she worked with on this album from The Clutch, Lil’ Jon, Jazze Pha, Rodney Jerkins, The Neptunes, Will.I.Am, Lil Jon, Polow Da Don, and Brian Kennedy. Ciara brings to the table some crunk in the song “That’s Right” feat. Lil’ Jon. Ciara, as we all know, has some sly dance moves and you dance to joints like “I Proceed”, “Make It Last Forever”, “Bang It Up”, and “Get In, Fit In”. If you’re in the mood for something smooth,  from Ciara, then check out “Promise”, “C.R.U.S.H.”, “Can’t Stop Love’em” feat. 50 Cent, “My Love”, “So Hard”, and “I Found Myself”. Ciara even presented liberating tracks for her girls such as “Like A Boy”, “I’m Just Me”, and “I Found Myself”. In “Like A Boy”, Ciara becomes the Pop Crunk R&B Madonna princess confronting social gender roles expected from men and how she feels she could play that role. Ciara sticks it to patriarchy (get it Ci-Ci!) telling all her girls to do exactly what men do to women! Overall, Ciara is showing growth, but I think it was a little pretentious. The album is a great album and I’m enjoying it. I’m for certain you’ll love something on this very well put together album. Expect nothing but big things in Ciara’s future! Purchase - buy, buy, buy, buy!!!

NEW ARTIST: The Circle

The Circle is a dope ass group based out of Los Angeles with an electric sound. They fuse funk, soul, and crazy psychedelic rock to get an amazing blend. They’re currently working on an album and I’m extremely eager to hear the finished product. If you are in Los Angeles you’ve probably heard of The Circle. They are believed to be working with Rico Wade who is the genius behind the Outkast sound. The main singer Rich reminds me of Robin Thicke, and Remy Shand meets psychedelic rock with tons of funk. Listen to the track RocketMan and tell me what you all think?

Rihanna was in Manchester, UK for signing Clinique Perfume at Selfridges. I really wonder what’s the point to sign a perfume and were those gloves necessary to wear.
