50 Cent Changes His Style Up – Scant album sales have 50 Cent abandoning his hip-hop roots for pop. The rapper claims he is inspired to take his music career in a different direction, and is making a dance record, after spending time in European nightclubs.
The rap mogul has already recorded some of the tracks and hopes his decision to embrace a new sound will help cement his reputation as a versatile artist, reports PR-Inside.com.
“I went to a nightclub afterparty. The music they were playing before they were playing the music I created was more up-tempo, more dance. I wanted to make a song like that, so I went into the studio. Because I’m travelling with my live band, I took the band with me and we sequenced it and recorded the actual record while I was out there. I did two other songs I had production for. I had been writing those songs for a while. So I finished them and recorded them,” he tells MTV.co.uk.
The G-Unit founder said his new album will not sound like his previous work. He believes music enthusiasts should expect him to take risks outside of his normal element and respect his varying musical tastes.
“I won’t allow myself to be placed in a box where I can only do one style, or do one kind of music. They should expect the unexpected on this one. If they can understand how I enjoy different genres of music and different styles; for the people who have various tastes in music, they’ll really like it.”
50 Cent’s new album, titled Black Magic, is slated for release later this year.
In related news, G-Unit member Lloyd Banks says he’ll drop an album independently as early as June.
“I’m aiming towards summer,” Banks recently told Mixtape Daily. “Mid-summer, late summer. I won’t drop an album until I feel the buzz – you know, as an artist, when you feel it.”
